It’s not about winning…
Scris de vineri, 19 septembrie 2008, ora 18:37… it’s about being the BEST.
This was Steve’s main message during the training he held to the TEMPO team.
Coming not only from a sportsman but from an Olympic champion, this philosophy must be based on true experiences, we thought. Indeed, it was, because Steve Williams is the only member of the British coxless four crew who continued his rowing activity after the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens (where he won his first Olympic gold medal).
During the 4 years between the Olympic Games, he’s been through intense and stressing situations: he had to build up a new crew, fight against being weak, and most important, ALWAYS try to perform BETTER, not just defense the titles he had previously won.
“We had lots of problems and we were always asking ourselves if we could still do it. It was mentally and emotionally tough, especially since we had to make a long commitment decision. We had to stop taking it as a job and put all our energy in it. Just like in advertising, you love it and hate it at the same time. So we learnt not to be afraid of making mistakes, and just take them as a challenge”, concluded Steve.
And it was worth it, because this year, Steve has won his second Olympic gold… and brought both medals with him to Bucharest.
