TEMPO is proud to present HIPPINK, the newest member of our boat who came all the way from Henley on Thames, specially delivered by Steve Williams.

As our friend Steve decided to make us a surprise during the Monday training, when he unveiled this huge pink hippie (the symbol of the British Leander Club that we all visited in spring), we also prepared a surprise for him: a name and a birth certificate for their famous emblem. Actually, this is the first time that someone has come up with such idea of finding a name for the hippo!

How come that a hippo stands for a rowing club? Well, the emblem came quite naturally, since the hippo is known as a powerful animal and is considered the king of water. In fact, when rowing, Leander oarsmen feel at ease, just like a hippo in water.
OK, so we got the hippo story. But why pink, you may wonder? Well, because once upon a competition, the Leander Club sportsmen forgot their T-shirts at home, so they had to find something else to replace their equipment with. They did find something… pink. And kept it in time.
In fact, those from TEMPO team who have been to Henley-on-Thames surely remember our friend Steve wearing a pink tie on February 28th…

And if you think that Steve totally forgot about it here in Bucharest, check this out:

Anyway, I’m sure Viorela didn’t expect such an “experiment” when she offered as volunteer :-)
Now that we have figured it out, Steve’s surprise seems very natural, doesn’t it? But just imagine how it was for Steve to carry the pink hippo through the airport… with no children around!
In the end, of course that the entire team got very enthusiast! Especially GIRLS.

HIPPINK, welcome in our team!!!
